And now for Digger’s boys…

Posted by frankpos on February 27, 2008

“Adolph Rupp has won 800 and some games. Five hundred of them against Southeastern Conference teams. That’s like me going down to Texas with six kids from Canada and starting a hockey league.” – Johnny Dee, former Notre Dame basketball coach.

I always liked ND growing up, mainly because of that famous quote. Also, because they pulled off some gigantic upsets, particularly a few over UCLA (did I say how much I hated UCLA?)

My memory may be failing me, but I believe U of L– and Denny– owned Notre Dame when we used to play them.  For over 40 years, we played them, the last time in 1995 under Denny in . Our all-time record against the Irish to that point: 12-7.

We’ve split the last two meetings, the last one in January 2007 in South Bend being a 78-62 loss.

So, what does all this mean for tomorrow night’s Armageddon in the Hall?

Diddly.

But…I, and I think most Card fans, are salivating like seldom before at the prospect of dismantling ND in our house. In fact, when was the last time you remember two teams (ND and Nova) of this quality coming to town back-to-back to end the season with so much on the line?

Is this what Heaven is like?

1958–that’s the last time U of L lost to ND at the Hall:

Russ Brown KY.com: Notre Dame has lost seven straight in Freedom Hall, including an 89-86 overtime defeat against UofL in 2006.

Their last victory in Freedom Hall came against Kentucky, 67-61, on Dec. 27, 1980. They’re 1-6 against the Cards, their lone win in the building coming on Dec. 20, 1958, 61-53.

    Maybe this is Limbo

The nuns never quite explained it fully.

But it always sounded OK to me…
