Ck it out!

The newest addition to this site, the Louisville Sports Scrapbook, is beginning to fill up nicely with photos of souvenirs, newspapers, etc. from fans.

My brother-in-law, Matt, just recently scanned in all the pages from his special CJ edition after the 1986 championship.

In the next few days, I’ll also be scanning in sections of the game program from the 1983 original Dream Game.

And, if I can ply Matt with enough beer this weekend, he might get the newspapers from that Dream Game–and the 1980 champs–scanned in too.

Check in from time to time and you might be surprised by what you find.

Also…hey, send in pics of your own prized souvenirs too, so we can share with all Card fans!

BTW, while you’re strolling this fine day, stop by and ck out Card Empire– always one of the most mature and civilized message boards, and getting ready to post a major interview on the new and highly touted BBall recruit Peyton Siva.

Shannon at Card Dominance is all over the FBall scene. Greg at Red Reign –well, he’s still is warming up, but keep an eye on his site, because he’s got some very interesting things coming down the pike soon.

Tom at Smokin’ Fastball is now venturing beyond baseball into uncharted territory. Always entertaining.

Mike at the Card Chronicle– usually my favorite read.

Justin at Card Hoops just started his blog not that long ago, and is already gaining a rep for his BBall chops.

And while you’re out, ck out Card Game –Charlie has been a whirling dervish, churning out articles on a variety of topics.

I thought I would highlight this wonderful memory of the ‘86 champs:

Dookies 86′d

Interesting that we won again that year. Everybody knows that the term “86″ means “to be through” with something, or to “be out of something.” Twentieth century slang.

Denny always said that this was the easy one. Nobody really expected us to win…not like 1980…they expected we would be a contender, but not to win. But when we beat Dean and Carolina on that Thursday night and drew LSU for the semi’s, man did I have my hopes up.
I guess the guys all didn’t run down to the student union and put there handprints in cement like Eaves and Griffith and Poncho. Maybe it’s because the program was more mature…in any case, the 1986 NCAA Championship solidified our claim as Team Of The Eighties. After this one, there could be no doubts.

Interesting how Mark McSwain never got much ink. I will always remember his determined and gritty inside game. And I’ll always remember the reams of tape wrapped on his thigh to allow him to play.

To a lesser extent, Billy Thompson does not get as much ink as you might expect. As smooth as a vanilla shake, his maturity, along with Milt’s, helped put us over the top. Yeah, he was elegant.

And we did it, didn’t we? Did it all again. And in our road reds. And over Duke.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
