Dedicated to the joyful noise of the Card faithful

Hurricane Winds Expected Soon, with Heavy Thunder and Lightning…

2 pts – yes, dos

This was a painfully ugly affair, by two mediocre teams.

It was like watching two armless men butt each other to death in a sauna.

UK had no offense…well, actually count 6 points for them–or, ok, give ‘em 13, with Dixon going in after one of our many miscues.

U of L had no…offense either. In fact, it was far, far worse. To a degree beyond what any even pessimistic Card fans could begin to fathom in their darkest , bourbon-swilling moods.

Balls hit our receivers in their guts, in the “numbers”, and in, and through, their hands many times. Hunter Cantwell I’m sure was frustrated–but something is wrong when a 6’5″ QB’s throws keeps getting tipped–like 6 ? times. And he just plain forced the ball too many times.

Oh, and our three-headed running game was neatly guillotined, producing little all day.

To their credit, UK does have a very solid D, and that may somewhat compensate for an incredibly bad QB, and a mediocre O line, and permit them to eke out another winning season. (They may do a bit better than that by just putting the versatile and impressive Randall Cobb in at QB, and turning him loose, ala Pat White.)

Bright spots?

The Card D actually looked much improved and aggressive, and that was the most pleasant surprise of a most dismal day for our side. Ron English…Please. Don’t. Leave.

Where from here?  Lordy…

Well, the D did look better, and may unexpectedly serve as a bulwark for the Card O to get some experience over these next two “easy” games. And get something…anything…working.

But my eyes also told me this: We simply don’t have the number of studs on the field right now, that we have had in the last several years. The talent is just not there.

Of course, that just brings us back to the black-hole conundrum of why the house had to be cleaned to begin with, and why we are now begging for even  2 and 3 star recruits.

No matter how you slice and dice it… I think we may unfortunately be in for a very long season.

My thoughts rush immediately to three issues…intense fan reaction and discontent with K… even worse recruitment problems than we currently are experiencing…and discontent extending possibly even to Tom Jurich with the fan base if it gets really fugly.

Bad, bad weather ahead indeed…

LOL! Instead of “Win as One”, we have officially changed that to “Win JUST One”.

The funniest thing is, everyone acts shocked. I predicted a 27-24 UK loss, and before the game at tailgating, Mike McCammon walks up to me and says, “Well, are you ready to have our asses handed to us”? We started laughing, and we BOTH had UK picked to win.

After the game, back at our Rick and Jeff Tours tailgating spot, people were beside themselves, and completely baffled.

Why? The “premium” sites did not want to clue the fans in that need someone to do their thinking for them, with the reality of the strength of the UK defense, and that we had a lot of new coaches and players that need to “mesh”.

Most disturbing part of the game for me was the offensive playcalling. That is what I am most worried about, and the fact Hunter looked like a third string QB for Central High. The defense is much improved, holding UK to only 13 points offensively, with the offense gunning up (5) TOs and giving up 14 points DIRECTLY.

TWO ARMLESS MEN BUTTING EACH OTHER TO DEATH IN A SAUNA? FRANK, THAT HAS TO BE ONE OF THE FUNNIEST IMAGES and ALLEGORIES OF ALL TIME!

Honestly, it was all Paul could do to keep me awake in the second half. If the darn UK fans wouldn’t have been making so much noise, I could have got a couple hours of good sleep in. I know, the excitement of meeting Charlie and his angel took it all out of me…yeah, that’s the excuse I’ll use. Paul was so steamed after the game he got into an argument and shoving match with a dumpster. The dumpster won. I was just ready for some sleep and a couple of Tylenol. WIN AS ONE?
Let’s just try to WIN US ONE
…or WIN BY ONE against Tenn.Tech. I shudder at the thought of throngs of toothless, West Virginia geeks invading here, or even the 15 fans USF will bring, because both school are posed to put a severe and nasty football spanking on us later this year if things don’t do a 180.

    We’re a basketball school, remember?

I picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue. Gustav is coming, but it cant wipe out the effects of this game. We just have to regroup. The defense was solid, and gives us hope. The offense just needs to forget this one. The receivers are the main problem, but they will improve dramatically over the next few games. I cannot understand the running game. It will be tough from here on, but it cant look much uglier. I hope.
