Pitt & UConn Fall: Can We Seize The Moment?

Posted by frankpos on March 13, 2009

Resting on their laurels?

Well, Pitt and UConn (in 6 OT’s!!!) both fell on their swords in the first round to hungry WVU and Syracuse respectively.

Now, with those  twin powerhouses defused.. can the Cards seize this moment— and a  #1 seed in the Big Dance.

A #1 seed that most Talking Heads have dissed the Cards for this year so far…

By Gawd, yes we can!!

But, first, Villanova– yes, that Nova, the first Big East team we beat this year in that WWF death-match at their stomping grounds back in  Golden January,

the team 99% of the Garden crowd will be rooting for tonight,

the team that is one of the most, scorching-hot teams in the country,

that Nova is up first.

GO CARDS!

    Phew what a night.

I think, no matter what happens, that this Big East Championship will be defined by last night’s sextuplet overtime. I honestly had to ask my wife, twice, what number overtime we were in.
It will be like the 1975 Bosox win in the Series over Cincy, when Fisk hit the the homer. Game six. Or again with the Bosox, but this time in ’86, when Mookie Wilson’s grounder went through Billy Buck’s wicket and into the short right field grass that cool October night in Shea. Again, game six. The Red Sox lost game seven both years, but it is game six that seems to endure.

Now, for the business at hand, in spite of the above in order to fade the Cuse/UCONN game from OUR memories, and stamp something even more indelible on our collective psyche’s, well…..a couple of more wins at MSG would go far toward that end.
