It’s Time for Glory

Posted by frankpos on March 14, 2009

It’s time for a new sheriff in town.

One South of the Mason-Dixon,

a team that gets no respect from its Northern peers in this league,

or even from the national media this year.

It’s time for glory.

A Big East tourney title is there for the taking…and would be stacked on top of  the one from the regular season. Both are firsts for  the Cards, and only four short years after joining the BE and getting badly man-handled the first year.

Win or lose tomorrow, we will have a 1 or 2 seed in the Big Dance.  Only three past U of L teams have been rated so highly, and all went to the Final Four and two won NCAA crowns.  If it’s a #1 seed we will go to Indy…the site of our first NCAA title.

This Card team has won 25 regular season games.  All other Louisville teams with that many wins or more have gone to the Final Four.

It’s time for Louisville,  the #7 ranked team of ALL TIME by multiple national publications,

a team with 2 NCAA’s and 8 Final Fours

to assert itself once more.

And, it’s time for Rick Pitino –the only coach to take three different teams to the Final Four–to win his beloved Big East ….and perhaps a second,  richly deserved and  long over-due, national championship ring.

Yes, it’s time.

Tomorrow,  the Cards will play a Syracuse team for the BE title.  A top 20 Syracuse team that has now played and won three games, including two straight overtime games–one being that  6 overtime gem.

It will not be simple, not with 99.9% of Madison Square Garden screaming for another Cuse upset.  The supposed dead legs of  the Syracuse players were lively enough to take down a hot West Virginia team. They can not be underestimated–or they will kill us to the joy of  25,000 fans in the Garden.

This  Card team has the talent to win it all– the Big East tourney  AND  the Big Dance.  But does it have the focus and will.

Coach Pitino has  stated several times this year that the key to this Card team boils down to two essentials:   Good ball movement and offensive rebounding.

The focus on these esentials by the Cards has wandered  at times this season, and, disturbingly,  even during the last few days.  But the will  to win has pulled us through.  And we just blitzed a very talented Villanova  team by 22 points in the second half to cruise to victory.

I think we’re ready.

Tomorrow the Cuse will be tough.  But tomorrow we will win.

It’s time…

I see it, I feel it

I’ve been there before

in my mind’s eye

and heart

it’s so clear,

like yesterday, though 22 yrs now

God, take it, boys, take it.

It’s time for glory.

The Cards are playing for alot tonight, not just the Big East Tournament Championship, but also a #1 seed in the NCAA Tourney and a 50% better chance of the Final Four. Winning this game will provide a lot of confidence to a team that seems to get better the more it gains. Winning will essentially prove the Pitino system, that you can actually accomplish great things with defense, that team play is essential, that you dont need a point guard (if you have 4 guards), and that they can win in NYC. This should propel the Cards into Indy and Detriot, and will mark the first move to the top since the Garcia-led team almost took it in 2005. Go Cards!
