Siva ! U of L 88-65 Over Bellarmine

Posted by frankpos on November 5, 2009

In 90 seconds midway through the second half Peyton Siva stole the show and the game.

Serving the Hall crowd a slice of the sublime,  the 6′  Siva first soared from nowhere to reject a sure layup by Bellarmine

and then seconds thereafter,  followed a missed layup by Jerry Smith with a lightning -quick reverse jam.

The crowd ignited , and continued to flame and roar  as the replays of the two plays were broadcast.

Timeout was called after the dunk, and one of the officials walked to the  scorers table, leaned over and said  in a low voice to one of my friends manning that spot : ” You know. Sometimes you see something that just makes you want to say WOW .”

Yes, I’ve seen many a great one in my 40+ yrs of watching Card basketball and some pretty amazing athleticism.

That series by Siva ranked right up there with the best.

(Ck out this link to SportCenter’s top plays from last night–Siva’s block is #7, his reverse dunk is #2)

In the post game presser, Coach Pitino marveled at the sequence also, saying the Siva’s quickness surprised even him, as he just blew by players to the rim.

(In case you missed it–above is Coach Pitino’s halftime interview of Scotty Davenport of the Bellarmine game.)

Louisville looked much sharper than last game– good ball movement, good shot selection, and shooting .  Samardo Samuels and Preston Knowles came up big too.

Preston stops and pops for 3 of his 15 pts. PK was his usual sensational self, stuffing the stats with pts, 4 bounds, and dishing 3 A's.

And Bellarmine is no slouch– they are a good , solid seasoned team, with some decent height and skill.

It was a very good outing for the Cards and bodes well for the future.

Fun time when these two programs play, but I wish Bellarmine had not been missing a couple of bigger guys and not had an uncharacteristically poor shooting night. If they were to play again, it’d be closer.

In fact, Bellarmine, still without some guys who are injured, played Cincinnati very tight last night, cutting the lead to five deep in the second half and only losing by seven. And this with UC having their starters in longer than Bellarmine.

Siva looks great off the jump. Let’s hope being a frosh doesn’t hurt him in the big games.

On another note, T-Will looked good last night for the NJN. If only they can win a game now.
